Palo Alto Residence

The design of the Palo Alto House started with the concept of dividing the building program into two major wings: a ‘public’ wing and an adult wing; and a guest and children’s wing.

A central entrance gallery links to two wings and contains the main horizontal and vertical circulation. The interior features limestone flooring, maple-clad steel framed stairs which bridge the various levels of the house, steel and glass railings supported by diagonal stainless steel rods, and exposed steel columns.

The owners, a young couple from Israel with four children, have brought to this project a passion for architecture, including unique materials and details. The result, a true collaboration, is a lively composition of cast-in place concrete, Minnesota and Jerusalem limestone, integral colored stucco, redwood and glass set in clear anodized aluminum frames.
